New Delhi, Aug 26: The Delhi government today notified the disqualification of advocate Adish C Aggarwala to hold the office of vice-chairman of Bar Council of India (BCI), a decision contested by the advocate.
The notification stated that as Aggarwala had failed to attend three consecutive meetings of the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD), he was deemed to have been disqualified from the membership to the Delhi body.
"Aggarwala on being declared to have vacated the office as member of BCD, has also ceased to be the member of the BCI and in the vacancy so caused, Jatan Singh, member, BCD, has been unanimously elected as member, BCI, in place of Aggarwala with immediate effect," the notification said.
It said Aggarwala's brother Satish Aggarwala has also been declared disqualified and deemed to have vacated his office as member of BCD with effect from August 22.
When contacted, Adish Aggarwala said he has not been intimated about this notification and would challenge it at an appropriate forum.
"Nobody can disqualify me. This has to be done in accordance with law," he said adding that Delhi government has no power in this regard as he was purely an elected member of BCD, BCI and was duly elected as vice-chairman of BCI.
He also claimed that he was not given information about the holding of those meetings on the basis of which he has been disqualified.
