Islamabad, May 20: Lauding Congress President
Sonia Gandhi for declining the prime ministership, Pakistani
media today said it demonstrated a "rare kind" of
statesmanship and set "impossible political traditions" for
South Asia.
It also said that Gandhi would remain the "guardian
angel" to prevent Dr Manmohan Singh's government from being
"grounded" because of "a long history of in-house politics" in
Congress.
"Sonia Gandhi's decision will remain unprecedented in
political history for a long time. It demonstrated a high
level of statesmanship and set impossible political traditions
for South Asia," Pakistan daily 'The News' said in its
editorial today while reacting to Singh's nomination
as prime minister.
