Seoul, May 29: A F-16 US fighter jet crashed during a takeoff late today but the pilot survived the incident, the US military said. "We had one F-16 crashed around 8:00 pm 4:30 IST (1100 GMT)," Lieutenant Toni Tones, spokeswoman for the 7th US Air Force, told.
In a statement released later, the US military authorities said the crash led to injure one South Korean near the US airbase in Osan, 50 km south of Seoul, but did not elaborate.
It said: "The F-16 was taking off on a routine training mission when the crash occurred. The pilot safely ejected from the aircraft and was transported to the base hospital. There is a report of one Korean national injured on the ground, but no further details are available at this time."
South Korea is home to 37,000 US troops deployed to counter North Korea's military threat.
