Ballia, Mar 18: A BJP worker was killed when police opened fire on a rampaging mob of BJP activists, who led by party MLA Ram Iqbal Singh on Thursday laid a siege on Nagara police station premises in protest against alleged murderous attack on a party leader last week.
Singh, who led the mob, however, alleged that six people were killed and scores of others injured when police fired to disperse the party workers.
Official sources, however, confirmed only one death.
Circle officer, Nagara, Akhilesh Tewari said that hundreds of BJP workers led by Singh gheraoed the police station and also roughed up police personnel besides indulging in heavy stone pelting causing injuries to several of them.
The BJP workers were protesting the murderous attack on Itsnagara block president Ram Pravesh Chauhan last week, he said. Bureau Report
