Mumbai, June 10: Iqbal Hassan Ibrahim Kaskar, younger brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, and two others were today remanded to judicial custody till June 19 in a case of alleged extortion and land-grabbing even as Mumbai High Court deferred their petition challenging their custody.
Iqbal Kaskar, Abdul Rehman Abdul Gafoor Shaikh and Abdul Sattar Haji Hiva Randhanpur were produced amidst tight security before designated judge A P Bhangale.
In a related development, the high court deferred their petitions challenging a special court order which remanded them to three days' police custody from May six to eight. They had urged that police custody could not be given after 30 days of arrest in keeping with Anupam Kulkarni judgement of Supreme Court.
The trio is facing the charge of forcibly evicting a woman from her house which obstructed the entrance of a shopping centre allegedly owned by Dawood Ibrahim and his associate Chhota Shakeel in south Mumbai.
The trial court had earlier attached Sara Shopping Centre and Sahara Shopping Complex allegedly owned by Dawood and also appointed court receiver in respect of these properties. About 350 tenants have moved the high court to challenge the order of attachment and appointment of court receiver.
