Kolhapur, Mar 17: An all party group today protested Centre's reported refusal to allow renaming of Kolhapur Railway Station as Chatrapati Shahu Maharaj station.
Activists cutting across party lines held a meeting at
the Kolhapur district central cooperative bank and passed a
resolution stating the refusal had hurt the sentiments of the
people.
Leaders from all parties including BJP-Shiv Sena Shetkari Kamgar and Congress were present at the meeting. The resolution said their demand was just and appropriate.
Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani had written to member of Parliament Sadashivrao Mandli on February 14 that the proposal was not in accordance with guidelines of the ministry and changes could not be made on request, they said.
Meanwhile, Yuvraj Malojiraje Bhosale, a descendent of the ruling family of the erstwhile princely state of Kolhapur, who attended the meeting, told a news agency that he believed Advani's refusal was based on technical grounds. Bureau Report
