Kolkata, Apr 04: Eminent Bengali film actor and director Sukhen Das died early today following a protracted illness. He was 66. He is survived by actor-director son Rajat Das and daughter Piya Das Sengupta.

Das, who was suffering from pancreas disorder for a long time, breathed his last at a city nursing home at about 0215 hrs IST.

The veteran actor had acted in more than 150 films which included ''Laloo Bulu'', ''Bindoor Chele'', ''Mani Manik'', ''Shashi Babur Sansar'', ''Hasuli Baker Upakatha'', ''Dhanni Meye'' ''Mayer Anchal'' and ''Atithi''. He also directed several popular films like ''Milan Tithi'', ''Viswas Ghatak'' and ''Dadamoni''.
Besides several awards, the veteran actor also received an award at the Taskhand Film Festival for ''Man Abhiman'', Sengupta said.

The film-maker's body would be taken to the Tollygunge studios in the morning where several actors and technicians would pay their respects before being taken for the cremation.
