At the red-carpet premiere of 'Carol, a lesbian love story', several women were turned away for wearing flats! Shocking as it may sound in the 21st century, the ladies reported to be in their 50s were not allowed entry to the film on the grounds that they were not dressed to the standard.

The social media erupted after the incident came to light with several high profile celebrities expressing their dismay at the premiere.

While Indian celebrities too have been creating quite a buzz at the prestigious festival, the dressing mandate at Cannes has been rather uptight. The necessity to wear high heels seems absurd in this era where men and women are supposed to be on equal footing.
