Monsoon hits Kerala; respite for Andhra likely
New Delhi, June 08: As a harbinger of relief to the nation reeling under sweltering heat, the south-west monsoon today hit Kerala raising hopes that severe heat wave conditions persisting in Andhra Pradesh would finally subside.

Rain lashed several districts of Kerala with Kozhikode
recording 14cm, Kochi-8cm, Alleppey-7cm, Kottayam-3cm, Met
Department official S K Subramaniam said.
He said the heat wave persisting in parts of Andhra Pradesh would now end, adding conditions are favourable for monsoon to advance into Karnataka.
Good rainfall is also expected in Kerala and Karnataka in next 2-3 days following strengthening of Arabian branch of south-west monsoon, Subramaniam said
The offshore trough in east Arabian Sea is also well marked and strengthened.
The monsoon south-westerlies have become stronger and have extended to higher levels, the official said.
Meanwhile, the monsoon in North-East India has not advanced further.
Subramaniam attributed the temperature dip in Delhi and surrounding areas to south-westerly winds.
