Raipur, Feb 22: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Venkaiah Naidu made it clear that the tainted former Union minister Dilip Singh Judeo will be one of the principal poll campaigners for the party in Chhattisgarh during the Lok Sabha elections. Incidentally, it was Naidu who told media persons last month here that Judeo would not be a star campaigner of the party in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

Judeo’s position — especially after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) named him in an FIR — is no better than the former party president, Bangaru Laxman. He has not even found place in the state BJP core group. The state party removed him from the post of senior vice president — a post he held even after his resignation from the union cabinet — in its recent reshuffle.

The statement of Naidu on Judeo here on Sunday has boost the morale of his supporters in the state. Now they are insisting that he should be given a party ticket from Mahasamund in Raipur district which is being represented by the Congress veteran, Shyama Charan Shukla. Yuddhavir Singh, son of Judeo said that his father was keen to contest from Mahasamund. “Besides, a large section of party leaders from the region have requested the organisation that Judeo be given a ticket to contest against Shyama Charan Shukla,” he added.

However, there are a sizeable section of BJP leaders within the organisation who have been insisting that Judeo should be kept aside during the poll so that the party could corner the opposition, if the Congress utilises Ajit Jogi for poll campaigning, on the issue of 'clean' politics. It should be mentioned here that there is a move to revoke the suspension of Jogi from the party by the first week of March to use his clout in the State for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.
On fielding Judeo in the coming Lok Sabha elections, Naidu was not very specific. But he asserted that Judeo would be remained as member of either house — Lok Sabha or the RajyaSabha in coming days. Presently, the Raja of Jashpur is the member of Rajya Sabha and his tenure expires in August next. Bureau Report
