Itanagar, Oct 30: Arunachal Pradesh government with the help of the Centre will take steps to develop tourism in the state, while developing Tawang-Bomdila-Zimithang as an international level tourism circuit, state Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister T G Rimpoche said here. Tawang-Bomdila-Zimithang would be declared as an international level tourism circuit with all the basic infrastructure within two year, Rimpoche said while inaugurating the third Buddha Mahotsava at Tawang yesterday.
Rimpoche declared the three-day festival open amidst offering of prayers and traditional rituals by the Buddhist lamas of the famous Tawang Monastery. The gathering took out a procession from monastery to the festival ground chanting slogans for "global peace".
Rimpoche maintained that along with the development of tourism, traditional tribal culture of the state should be highlighted.
Planning and Programme Implementation Minister Thupten Tempa Wa also present on the occasion.
Located at an altitude of 3500 metres, Tawang is the oldest and second largest monastery in Asia, besides being the birth place of 6th Dalai Lama, the only Indian who had attained such a coveted post.
The festival was sponsored by union Tourism Ministry in collaboration with state Tourism Department.
Events like traditional dance competition, indigenous sports, exhibition of tradition crafts and handloom items and monastic dances would be the highlight of the festival.
