Washington, June 19: US is expecting that some 20,000 to 30,000 troops from more than a dozen country, including India will begin arriving in Iraq in mid-August to replace some of its troops leading the military occupation there. Forces from Italy, Spain, Ukraine and Honduras and, perhaps another country, possibly India, are expected to assume responsibilities for parts of central and southern Iraq, Pentagon sources were quoted by the New York. A Pentagon team was in India earlier this week to urge New Delhi to consider contributing its troops to the estabilisation force. Adopting a cautious approach, India sought clarifications from the US on the mandate of the stabilisation force in Iraq and indicated that government would evolve a political consensus and consult countries in that region before taking a decision on sending its troops.
