Ahmedabad, July 10: With the arrest of a person, police has claimed to have busted an interstate racket of car thieves and recovered more than 29 vehicles worth over Rs 51 lakh from Chandlodia area of the city. On a tip-off, the accused, identified as 23-year-old Nilesh Joshi and a resident of Chandlodia area, was arrested in the wee hours on July seven and remanded to seven days police custody, Inspector P P Chudasma of Gandhinagar district police told a news agency. All the vehicles recovered were new and most were from various parts of the city but some were also from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, he said adding the gang had managed to change the Chasis number of most of the vehicles. "We will be sending some of the vehicles to the forensic science laboratory to know exactly how they managed to do all this without advanced technology. Moreover, the accused are also involved in forging registration numbers of old cars and reusing them to the stolen ones", Chudasma said. Joshi and his father, a former employee of Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB), were earlier arrested in connection with a case of power theft, he added.
