Bhuj, Sept 04: Observing that terrorist incidents in the last ten days had posed challenges and provided achievements to security forces, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani today said such incidents would have "some impact" on the on-going peace process initiated by India.
"There will be some impact on the talks. I had said in Srinagar also that Pakistan should see that if such incidents continue, there will be some impact on the talks," Advani told reporters after dedicating a new terminal complex of Bhuj airport here.
Advani said it was a challenge to the security forces because the incidents occurred at a time when the country's top political leadership had gathered in Srinagar for the inter-state council meeting. At the same time, the killing of Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Ghazi Baba was a big achievement for the security forces. "Terrorists always set targets and timings," he said.
Asked about reports that youths from Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat going to Pakistan for terrorist training, he said, "Exfiltration from Jammu and Kashmir is still continuing. There is no change in the trend."
He, however, replied in the negative when asked whether the movement of youths from up and Gujarat to Pakistan was causing concern. Accepting a suggestion from Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi that the Bhuj airport should be named after the revolutionary Shyamji Krishna Verma, Advani said a proposal in this respect would be placed before the Union Cabinet for approval.
Accusing the previous government at the Centre of pursuing negative factors during elections, he said the Vajpayee government had come to power on the basis of positive factors and promised transforming Swaraj into Suraj (good governance).
He said while on the one hand, the government tried to build global opinion against cross-border terrorism, on the other concerted efforts were being made to develop infrastructure like roads, communication networks and airports. Bureau Report
