Kolkata, May 16: As Bollywood`s cerebral actressTabu`s maiden Bengali film `Aabar Aranye`, a sequel to Satyajit Ray`s acclaimed 1969 movie `Aranyer Din Ratre`,releases here today, she has no doubts on her acceptability asa regional cinema star. Here to gauge the audience mood for herself, Tabu has made a decent self appraisal in the two-day sneak pre-release survey of the sequel, made by Gautam Ghosh. "I am already upbeat with the reaction of cinestars who have previewed the film. I am sure my non-Bengali background would not come in the way of my acceptability," the leading lady, clad in a trademark beige Chudidar Kurta, told a small interactive session here last night.
Calling `Aabar...` one of her most exciting ventures besides Madhur Bhandarkar`s award winning `Chandni Bar`, she said the evolution of the character she portrays in the movie was something she has never portrayed ever.
Ghosh, who bagged a national award for his last film `Dekha`, has taken off from where Ray`s masterpiece left off. But he is not perturbed by the inevitable comparision which the sequel could meet. "I have consciously chosen to work on a sequel ... Can`t help being compared. Even a book from which a movie is made is compared to the literary work and vice versa," Ghosh said. Bureau Report
