New Delhi, June 18: Foreign secretary Kanwal Sibal will attend a two-day SAARC meet in Kathmandu next month but is unlikely to have any bilateral meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Riaz Khokkar. "Our foreign secretary will attend the SAARC meet. I am not aware of any bilateral meeting," External Affairs Ministry spokesman said when asked whether Sibal would meet Khokkar.
Foreign secretaries from the seven SAARC countries are slated to have a two-day meeting from July 9 to discuss a host of issues including holding of the deferred SAARC summit.
After stating that it was ready to host the summit in January this year, Pakistan had called it off blaming India for not agreeing to confirm its participation. New Delhi, on the other hand, said no dates had been agreed upon for the summit among the member states. India also accused Pakistan of stonewalling progress on economic cooperation by not moving ahead on SAPTA and SAFTA.
