Kannur, May 09: Kerala government has identified 1020 acres of land located near Alacode in the district for the rehabilitation of tribals, district forest officer K K Chandran said today.

"The government has decided to takeover the state plantation corporation-owned land for rehabilitating the adivasis," he told reporters here.
Stating that the forest department had received an order to this effect, he said over 100 people working in the Plantation Corporation had been relieved from their duties by offering the voluntary retirement scheme. The department had taken the responsibility of protecting trees worth over Rs six crore in the area, he said. The areas identified for the tribal rehabilitation were the hamlets located near Paithalmala Valley, he added. Bureau Report
