New Delhi, May 04: Election Commission today directed the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir to file an FIR against ruling PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on charges of intimidating voters during Lok Sabha polls on April 26.
This was announced by EC spokesman A N Jha after a full meeting of the commission.
The EC directed the state administration to file an FIR against Mehbooba under section 171 (C) of the Indian Penal Code and other concerned sections of the Representation of the People's Act.
The National Conference had filed a complaint with the State Election Commission after Mehbooba reportedly went inside a polling booth located at Burn Hall School on April 26 and lifted the veil of a woman voter.
In its complaint, the party had alleged that Mehbooba had abused her power by storming into a polling booth alongwith her security guards and threatened the voters.
After lodging the complaint with the State Election office, the NC had threatened to pull out of the Lok Sabha polls if the EC failed to take note of their complaint.
It was after this that the State Election Commission conducted an inquiry into the case and submitted its report to the EC.
