Chennai, Oct 14: Leaders of various political parties including former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M Karunanidhi, have condemned the attack on Congress MP, Mani Shankar Aiyar, near Karaikal last night, allegedly by ruling AIADMK men.
Karunanidhi told reporters here today that the attack was
a 'slur on politics' and it had followed Chief Minister
Jayalalithaa throwing a challenge to a member of Parliament
from the area.
"Chasing him upto Karaikal and ransacking his car and his office premises deserved to be condemned," Karunanidhi said.
Tamil Nadu Congress committee president S Balakrishnan condemned the attack and said his party would soon submit a memorandum to the state Governor demanding action against culprits responsible for the attack on Aiyar.
"It is deplorable that even an MP is not allowed to air his views freely at a government function," he told reporters at Tiruchirappalli.
Condemning the attack, CPI state unit secretary R Nallakannu, in a statement here, asked the government to take early action against culprits responsible for the attack on Aiyar.
