For those who swore off chocolate after Christmas, a butcher in Eastern Germany has a new idea for Easter: easter bunnies made of salami. The unique easter treat is a speciality of the butcher shop in Duerrroehrsdorf, near Dresden in eastern Germany. Manager Christian Ehrentraut said the idea was born after customers said they would like to have something different to nibble on during the holidays. After speaking to different customers we noticed that some like chocolate, yes, but some would rather have a present they can eat over the course of several days, said Ehrentraut. Ehrentraut says the company uses about 1.5 tonnes of pork for the salami, turning it into 3,500 easter bunnies. Most of them are bought as gifts, he says. Each bunny is filled with pure pork meat, and hung to mature and dry for five days. When the bunnies are ready for consumption, Ehrentraut sells them for 5 Euros each. Bureau Report
