Mumbai: If you have a sweet tooth, then you would certainly have Rasagola at the top of your favourites’ list. For years it has been believed that this sweet delicacy originated in Bengal. But apparently, Odisha is the birthplace of his mouth-watering Indian desserts.

Twitter is abuzz with tweets with #RasagolaDibasa, to celebrate the origin of the sweet in the state almost 700 years ago.


According to a legend, on Niladri Vijay (last day of Rath Yatra), this sweet preparation is offered to Goddess Lakhshmi. It is believed that Lord Jagannath tried to appease his consort after he returned to his abode after a nine-day vacation without her.


And since then, the tradition of offering Khira Mohana (Rasagula) became an annual custom.
