New Delhi, Dec 05: The elections to the four States resulted in a mandate that is historic. This is the first time that India will have five women Chief Ministers. While Jayalalithaa is firmly in the saddle in Tamil Nadu and Rabri Devi in Bihar, the elections saw Sheila Dixit retaining her throne and the two entrants joining the exclusive club: Vasundhara Raje Scindia from Rajasthan and Uma Bharati from Madhya Pradesh.

Rajasthan and MP will have women as CMs for the first time. Vasundhara, who was written off in pre-poll surveys and given a half-chance in exit polls, took the BJP romping past the 100-mark in Rajasthan. This is the first time ever that the party has scored a century in the desert State, something that even the redoubtable Bhairon Singh Shekhawat could not manage.

In MP, the sanyasin rode to power with a two-third majority while the Raja took sanyas.
