Ahmedabad, Aug 22: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will lead a special delegation to Geneva on August 22 to bring the "Asthi Kalash" (urns containing the ashes) of veteran freedom fighter, Shyamji Krishna Verma and his wife.
An "Asthi Kalash" yatra has also been organised in Mumbai city on August 24, when Modi returns. The yatra will continue in 17 districts of Gujarat so that people can pay floral tributes to the leader, State Law Minister Ashok Bhatt, who is the convenor of the procession told reporters.
A native of Mandvi in Kutch district, Verma breathed his last in Geneva in 1930 and since then his ashes have been preserved in a museum there.
Bhatt, who is also the Incharge Minister for Kutch, said that the "Kalash" is likely to reach Mandvi, the hometown of Verma, on September four.
"While breathing his last, the freedom fighter's desire was that his ashes be taken to India only after the country achieves independence", the government said making a veiled attack on Congress, saying, "in the last 50 years since independence, no one took the initiative (to fulfil the last wish of Verma)".

Gujarat government has also requested Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi and RSS supremo K Sudarshan to be present when the freedom fighter's and his wife's "Asthi Kalash" is brought to Mumbai on August 24.
