Ahmedabad, Sept 22: Mysterious 'blasts' were heard
in several parts of Gujarat, shaking houses, police and fire
brigade sources said.
However, there were no casualties or damage, fire
brigade sources said adding that the blast was heard in the
city, as well as state capital Gandhinagar and Vadodra
district at about 10.30 am.
Meteorological sources said they had no specific
information as yet about the blasts.
The director of Indian Meterological Department (IMD) A K
Shukla told a news agency over phone that no earthquake has been
recorded from Gujarat region following reports of the 'blasts'
that began this morning.
"No significant earthquake activity has taken place in the region. We are constantly monitoring the situation and are gathering data to verify if it was a small quake", Shukla said. He said preliminary reports of the `blasts' appear to be similar to the kind of underground activity that occurred in Jamnagar recently.
Ahmedabad District Collector, Anita Karwal said the blast had been heard in the entire city and outskirts of Gandhinagar but there have been no reports of any damage.
A senior police official said mobile vans have been dispatched to various areas from where reports of houses shaking had been received.
A devastating earthquake had rocked the state two years back, claiming hundreds of life and flattening several houses.
