48-hour bandh in Senapati district, officials said today.
The Sadar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC) had
called the 48-hour bandh demanding that the Sadar Hills area
be made a full fledged revenue district. It also threatened to
launch a series of agitation after the bandh.
Passengers were left stranded as the bandh began from 6 pm yesterday at Sadar Hills area where major chunk of the National Highway 39 and 53 pass through.
An SHDDC statement had earlier said they would not be responsible for any consequences during the 48-hour bandh at Sadar Hills area.
Official sources said more than 200 buses and trucks plied everyday between Manipur and neighbouring states through the two National Highways. Hundreds of passengers were stranded at different places because of the SHDDC-sponsored bandh, reports said. Bureau Report
