Bangkok, July 13: A number of Middle Eastern and North African countries have expressed an interest in joining hands with Thailand in promoting Thai tourism, and have proposed that Thai investors assess the possibility of investing in conference centres and hotels in the Middle East, tourism and sports minister Sontaya Kunplome said Friday.
Speaking after meeting a delegation of Arab ambassadors led by Moroccan ambassador Samir Arrour, Sontaya said the ambassadors had expressed confidence that Arab tourists still favoured Thailand as a tourist destination, and that the number of visitor numbers from the Arab world would continue to rise in line with Thailand's increasing reputation as a quality tourist centre.
He said that the ambassadors had particularly noted Thailand's growing reputation in terms of food and service standards, and had expressed an interest in joining hands with Thailand to promote tourism.
Dr. Samir said that Arab countries such as Morocco, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates are also tourist nations, and are interested in promoting travel between Arab countries and Thailand. They are also interested in other business relationships concerning tourism.
