United Nations, Aug 21: The Security Council said it remained committed to help Iraqis rebuild their nation despite a suicide bombing at UN headquarters in Baghdad that killed at least 20 people.
United Nations, Aug 21: The Security Council said it remained committed to help Iraqis rebuild their nation despite a suicide bombing at UN headquarters in Baghdad that killed at least 20 people.
The 15-nation Council ''reaffirms its determination to
assist the Iraqi people to build peace and justice in their
country and to determine their own political future by
themselves,'' the Council said in a statement read by Syrian
ambassador Mikhail Wehbe, the Council president for August.
''It welcomes in this regard the determination of the United Nations to continue its operations in Iraq to fulfill its mandate in the service of the Iraqi people, and will not be intimidated by such attacks,'' the Council statement said.
