Freedom fighter passes away in Udaipur
Udaipur, Jan 31: Veteran freedom fighter and one of the few surviving members of the constituent assembly Balwant Singh Mehta died here today, family sources said.
Udaipur, Jan 31: Veteran freedom fighter and one of the few surviving members of the constituent assembly Balwant Singh Mehta died here today, family sources said.
Mehta, 102, is survived by three sons.
Mehta was admitted to hospital few days ago following breathing problem and passed away at the wee hours of today, the sources said. Born on February 8, 1900, Mehta actively participated in the freedom struggle and served as a member of the constituent assembly that framed Indian Constitution.
He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Udaipur in the first general elections in 1952. He also served as industries minister in the first Government in Rajasthan.
He was elected as the first president of the Mewar Praja Mandal which spearheaded freedom struggle in the region in 1940s. Bureau Report
