New Delhi, Oct 15: Premieres at the 34th International Film Festival of India are proving to be a never-before launchpad for films with a difference, with `Pinjar' premiered as the opening film and the screening of Macbeth-inspired `Mian Maqbool' witnessing huge crowds.
The hype created around films being premiered at the
festival shows that the new trend at IFFI can go a long way in
popularising such films, especially among the connoisseurs of
good cinema, the kind of audience that comes to film
festivals, say industry experts.
This is the first time that films are being premiered at IFFI. While Chandraprakash Dwivedi's `Pinjar' was the opening film, the other two films being premiered at the festival are `Mian Maqbool', Vishal Bhardwaj's second film after `Makdee', and Rituparno Ghosh's much-talked about `Chokher Bali' that stars Aishwarya Rai.
Calling it a great idea, Bhardwaj said premiere at IFFI would act as a good platform for filmmakers to launch their films. "I was thrilled to have my film premiered at the festival, and the initial response to my film has been positive," he said.
"It is a good trend and will definitely create the right kind of buzz for good films," said actor-turned-director Amol Palekar.
