But why do people consider this day to be unlucky?

According to a report in TIME, it is very difficult to identify the exact reason that triggered this belief. However, some opine that the Last Supper and the 13 guests who sat on the table on the day before the Friday on which Jesus was crucified could be associated with it.

“When those two events come together, you are reenacting at least a portion of that terrible event,” TIME quoted Dr. Phil Stevens, 74, an associate professor of anthropology at the University at Buffalo as saying.

Many people avoid booking or occupying apartment or hotel rooms that are numbered 13. They even avoid Friday the 13th for fixing marriages or any good event.

Interestingly, this number is considered auspicious by a number of cultures.
