Patna, Nov 03: The Patna High Court today took a
serious view of the pitiable conditions prevailing on the
campuses of remand and after care homes here and directed the
district magistrate, district judge and director of social
welfare to appear in person with inspection report on November
six.
A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Nagendra
Roy and Justice R S Garg directed the officials and district
judge to visit the remand home and after care home to take
stock of the prevailing conditions and submit a detailed
report to the court on Thursday.
The bench passed this order while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL).
The inmates of remand and after care homes had written a letter to the High Court in 1993 about the pitiable conditions prevailing there.
Taking cognizance of the letter, the court had converted the letter into a PIL and directed the government to improve the living conditions at both the places.
Appearing on behalf of the inmates, Ashok Priyadarshi and M P Gupta told the court that despite court's order the authorities had not taken steps to improve the living conditions of the homes.
