Ohio, June 28: Vicente Fernandez came within a stroke of matching the lowest round in US Senior Open history with a stunning seven-under-par 64 at the Inverness Club in Ohio.

The 57-year-old Argentine finished on five under, one stroke better than first-round leader Tom Watson, who followed a 66 with a 72.
"I was confident that I could shoot par or under today," said Fernandez. "But not 64, no."
Bruce Lietzke was third on two under with Allen Doyle another stroke back and Fuzzy Zoeller the only player in the 153-man field at par after 36 holes.
