Simi activist escapes from police custody
Nagpur, June 28: A Students Islamic Movement of India (Simi) activist escaped from police custody early today when he was being brought back to Central Prison here from Jalgaon, police said.
Nagpur, June 28: A Students Islamic Movement of India (Simi) activist escaped from police custody early today when he was being brought back to Central Prison here from Jalgaon, police said.
Sheikh Mushtaque Sheikh Shafi, lodged in Nagpur Central Jail, was taken to Jalgaon yesterday, where he was facing trial, they said.
While being brought back to the jail, Shafi, pretended to answer nature's call and escaped with handcuffs near Karanja in neighbouring Wardha district early today, they said.
The police team escorting the accused immediately launched a manhunt, but failed to trace him, they said.
An offence has been registered against Shafi, police added.
