New Delhi, Feb 03: Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission and Public Service Commission of Maryland in the United States today launched a partnership programme aimed at strengthening power sector reforms in Delhi. The partnership programme would support DERC's efforts to continue power sector reform helping to establish a strong and independent regulatory system for the capital, a statement by US embassy said here.
The programme would focus on demand side management, energy efficiency, improving tariff guidelines, consumer participation, and establishing a regulatory database.
The partnership will be implemented through the United States Energy Association.
A three member team from PSC of Maryland is currently in the capital to hold discussions with the DERC.
The two sides are focussing on a broad range of issues, including legal questions related to tariffs and guidelines for revenue and tariff filing.
They would also discuss the process for filing complaints, consumer issues and demand forecasting.
Funding for this partnership is being provided by the United States for International Development (USAID).
USAID provides support to partnerships between US and Indian utilities, regulatory agencies and energy organisation in Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Orissa. Bureau Report
