Ahmedabad, Dec 01: An estimated 51.64 per cent voters today exercised their franchise for the by-polls to the sensitive Jamalpur assembly seat which passed off peacefully, official sources said here. "Polling passed off peacefully with a turnout of exactly 51.64 per cent being recorded till 1700 hours," Ahmedabad district collector Anita Karwal said.
She said no written complaint of bogus voting was received from any of the 132 polling booths from the three police station areas. Only two oral complaints received were cross checked and found to be false.
The by-elections were necessitated after the sudden demise of Congress MLA Usmangani Devdiwala on October 5.
A total of nine candidates, including BJP’s Lalji Parmar and Congress' Shabbir Khedawala are in fray.
Counting of votes would be held on December 4 and results would be out the same day. Bureau Report
