New Delhi, Feb 03: With an eye on the upcoming assembly elections in Delhi, the BJP-led Central Government today announced sops for industrial community in the capital, allowing varied kinds of industrial activity in five areas and deciding to consider regularising as industrial areas 24 other locations. Union Urban Development Minister Ananth Kumar, in presence of Delhi BJP Chief Madan Lal Khurana and some other city unit leaders, told a press conference that an amendment had been effected in the Delhi Master Plan, 2001 allowing running/operation of all kinds of industrial activities in five industrial areas of the city. At present only specific type of industries like food, cotton, textile products are allowed in these areas – Lawrence Road, Wazirpur, Naraina Phase I and Ii and GT Karnal Road.

Kumar said this would give more freedom to the lessor to change his trade or manufacturing activity, which would result in flexibility in industrial activity and help economy. However, he said, all the industries need to have clearance from Delhi Pollution Control Committee.

Kumar said the Centre has also accepted recommendations of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), for regularisation of 24 locations with more than 70 per cent industrial activity as industrial areas. However, as a matter related to this aspect is pending in the Supreme Court, a committee has been set up under the chairmanship of Secretary of Urban Development ministry to suggest how to go about implementing it, he said, adding that the committee will submit its report within a month.
