Vadodara, Mar 27: Two persons were arrested and remanded to seven days of police custody here for their alleged involvement in a Rs 12 lakh job racket. Mohammed Shabir Kasimbhai Shaikh from Bandra, Mumbai and John Lawrence D'souza from Ratnagiri in Maharashtra had opened an office in the city and promised jobs to unemployed youths in al-Fahidi construction company in Ajman town of UAE, police said today.

However, an inquiry by one of the job aspirants, revealed that no such company existed there, prompting him to lodge a complaint with the police, investigating officer of the detection of crime branch P I Parekh said.

Police arrested the two yesterday and recovered a list of 79 job aspirants from whom they had collected Rs 16,000 each, Parekh said.

The duo was remanded to seven days custody by a local court, Parekh added.
