Jammu, Feb 03: Taking forward its drive to cleanse the state of illegal constructions, the civic authorities today embarked on a massive demolition drive and razed nearly 100 shops, illegal structures, hoardings and makeshift shops along the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway. After Sringar, a massive operation has been launched to clear illegal encroachments in the first phase along the National Highway in Jammu City, said official sources. The anti-encroachment drive, which began this afternoon targetted the encroachments along the highway from Gandhinagar to Satwari Chowk in the city, they said. Although people, particularly businessmen resisted the demolition, heavy deployment of police made the task trouble free and the operations ended in the evening. Sources said that the drive will continue along the highway first and added that illegal constructions in the city would be targetted next.
