New Delhi, June 25: The Delhi High Court today issued
notice to Delhi staff services selection board secretary,
directorate of health services and the superintendent of Dr
Ambedkar hospital on some nurses' urgent application against
selection of 856 paramedical staff.
A vacation bench comprising justice A K Sikri and justice
Pradeep Nandrajog asked the respondents to file their reply by
October 15, already fixed for hearing their writ petition in
the matter.
The nurses, working on contract basis, feared termination of their services following selection of 856 paramedical staff in December last year, some of whom were said to have been issued appointment letters too.
The bench refused to stay the selection after the counsel for directorate of health services assured that there was no threat to the petitioners' job. However, the court said any appointment would be subject to the final outcome of the writ petition.
In their petition filed through counsel Surat Singh, the nurses alleged that the selection list was made without preparing merit list for appointment of para medical staff
Terming the selection of para medical staff as "illegal and arbitrary", Singh told the bench that such an action can not be allowed as it would be violative of artice 14 of the constitution.
Earlier, the Central Administrative Tribunal had on January 31 dismissed the nurses' plea against the new selection.
