Kathmandu, June 05: India has described as "baseless" local reports suggesting that New Delhi had a hand in the appointment of Surya Bahadur Thapa as Nepal's Prime Minister. "India has not sent any secret mission to Nepal to interfere in its affairs," Indian Ambassador Shyam Saran said here adding that "such reports are aimed at creating a misunderstanding between the two countries.

"India strongly favours multiparty democracy and constitutional monarchy in Nepal and wants to see all of Nepal's resolved with the participation of political parties here, Saran said commenting on reports in a section of local media about India's interference in the recent political developments in Nepal.

"Those creating such rumours are also harming Nepalese interests as they are trying to prove that Nepal is weak and it can be influenced by any foreigner," he said.

"We have absolutely no problem in anyone of Nepal becoming Prime Minister and we also do not favour any particular party," he said.

India is in favour of the peace process moving ahead to pave way for early elections to resolve the present political crisis, the Indian diplomat said adding that "we are extremely careful not to show our interest in any particular party or leader."
