New Delhi, June 27: Launching a crackdown against unlicenced and illegal lodges, swimming pools, cinema halls and shops in the capital, police have issued show cause notices or closed down 22 such establishments here. In a special drive, the licencing branch of Delhi Police conducted inspection of 23 swimming pools, 50 guest houses, 32 cinema halls and 58 firework shops during the last one month.

The inspectors found that the swimming pools at National Sports Club of India, Supreme Court Bar Cooperative Building Society Ltd, Niti Bagh, NDMC Club, NDMC Mandir Marg, Delhi Gymkhana Club, Vasant Vihar Club, Oberoi Apartments, Sanjay Lake and Rani Jhansi Mini Stadium, Keshavpuram, were operating without a valid licence.

They have been directed to stop operation of the pool, police said adding showcause notices have also been issued.

Notices for suspension of licence under the Cinematograph Act was issued to Ritz cinema and Milan cinema for the defects noticed during a joint inspection conducted by officials of fire, MCD, building and electrical departments.

Among the guest houses and hotels, Hotel Relax, Paharganj, Astoria Hotel, Fatehpuri and Siddhartha Lodge, Paharganj, have been got closed for using more rooms than that cleared by fire department and MCD and licenced by Delhi Police.

Three other hotels - Hindustan International, Pallavi Place, and Geet Deluxe have been closed for violation of conditions of the fire department, they said.

Show cause notices have also been issued to nine shops dealing in fireworks for violation of rules and conditions of the licence, they added.
