New Delhi, June 09: Congress today reconstituted its Bihar and Jharkhand state units and appointed Ram Jatan Sinha and Thomas Hansda as the new presidents for the two states respectively. Sinha, a former minister and five-time MLA, was appointed in place of Shakeel Ahmad who had earlier resigned from the post in keeping with the party's one man one post tradition, by party president Sonia Gandhi, AICC general secretary Oscar Fernandes said in a statement today.

Ahmad is a minister in the RJD-Congress government in Bihar headed by Rabri Devi.

Hansda, MP, was appointed as PCC chief of Jharkhand as there was no party chief in the state. Furqan Ansari was serving as acting president of the state unit.

The appointments would come into force with immediate effect, Fernandes said.
Asked about the appointment of PCC chiefs for other states, including Andhra Pradesh, party spokesman Anand Sharma said as and when these PCCS would be reconstituted, it would be known to everybody.
