Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 05: The Kerala Cabinet today approved a Rs 3.70 crore development package for Marad in Kozhikode district, which was rocked by violence on May 2, claiming nine lives. The package included a drinking water project (Rs 31.5 lakh), electrification of the area (Rs 27 lakh), construction of sea walls (Rs 53 lakh) and repairing of the damaged houses (Rs 19.65 lakh), Chief Minister A K Antony told reporters here. Antony said all the departments concerned had been asked to implement the welfare and development schemes on a war footing. The Kudumbasree directorate has been asked to submit a proposal to provide jobs to 300 women in the area under the Kudumbasree schemes, Antony said. The development package is part of the agreement reached between two communities after the May 2 violence.
