New Delhi, Nov 22: Angry over Congress abstension in UP Legislative Council bypoll, Samajwadi Party today dismissed as "white lie" the Congress claim that it was not approached for support in favour of the opposition nominee.
"It is a white lie that Congress was not consulted," SP general secretary Amar Singh told here.
He was reacting to the remark by Congress spokesman Satyabrata Chaturvedi that the party would have been morally bound to vote in favour of the opposition nominee in the UP Legislative Council bypoll had it consulted the party before fielding its candidate. "While I myself spoke to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, and senior leaders Motilal Vora and Natwar Singh, SP's state unit leader Sheopal Yadav had met up Congress leader Pramod Tiwari," Singh said.
The SP leader said the cat was out of the bag as Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader had stated that he too had spoken to Vora, who is in-charge of Congress affairs in Uttar Pradesh, on this issue.
Singh welcomed the CPI(M) polit bureau condemning the Congress for its role in the UP bypoll. Bureau Report
