Lucknow, Oct 16: A day ahead of the VHP's much-hyped Sankalp Yatra, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today said the VHP could carry out its programme five kms away from the disputed site in Ayodhya after taking prior permission from Faizabad District Administration. "The government is bound to follow the Supreme Court and High Court orders of maintaining status quo in Ayodhya and would not allow anyone to take law into his hands and the Faizabad District Administration has been asked to take all necessary steps in this regard' , Yadav told newspersons on his return from New Delhi this afternoon. "We have no objections to the VHP holding its programme peacefully, five kms away from the disputed area, provided it sought prior permission in this regard," Yadav said. Asked about VHP's allegations of harassment of its activists taken into custody at different places in the state, Yadav said they were being provided proper food and lodging facilities and challenged the VHP to cite even a single instance where they were being denied these facilities.
He said the VHP activists were being well-treated and were not lodged in jails.
