Panaji, Sept 28: Rajendra Arlekar, MLA, was today unanimously elected BJP's Goa unit president replacing Laxmikant Parsekar. With this the process for state unit organisational elections which commenced early this month concluded today. Addressing party workers at the day long sixth convention of state unit here, BJP National President Venkaiah Naidu claimed that the country had made progress in every sector during the NDA rule and said development would be the main issue before the party in the coming Lok Sabha elections. Naidu said BJP got "limited majority" in the last Lok Sabha elections and appealed to its workers to work towards ensuring an absolute majority with 300 seats for the party in the coming elections. Listing the achievements of the 23 party coalition rule under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the BJP chief claimed that today everything was available on demand and India was comfortably placed.
The announcement of the "unanimous" election of Rajendra Arlekar formed part of the agenda for the convention, which was addressed among others by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Union Minister of State for Finance, Shripad Naik.
All the past presidents of the state unit, including Shripad Naik, were felicitated at the convention.
The meet also adopted separate resolutions placing on record the achievements of the state government in various fields under Parrikar.
