Imphal, Nov 18: In a suspected inter-militant group clash, 11 rebels belonging to the banned People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak were killed in an ambush by ultras of another outfit in Setpur hilly area in Bishenpur district of Manipur, about 60 km south-east of here.
Official sources said policemen recovered this morning bodies of 11 ultras killed in the clash, which occurred last night.
Two vehicles carrying Prepak militants were fired upon by unidentified rebels. Prepak militants also returned the fire and nearby villagers heard gunshots for more than an hour, local reports said.
Police and security forces could not reach the spot last night because of darkness and unfavourable hilly terrain. The militants, who ambushed the Prepak members, had also reportedly taken away several arms including six AK-47 rifles, one rocket launcher and one self loading rifle, reports said.
The attacking militant outfit was yet to be identified.
Prepak is a major partner of the separatist Manipur People's Revolutionary Front (MPLF) which has been fighting for an 'Independent Manipur'.
