Washington, June 18: Germany, which along with France had opposed a US-led military action on Iraq, has offered help the United States in rebuilding the war-hit country. Germany offers to assist the rebuilding works in Iraq with members of its Technisches Hilfswerk, a relief agency that is part of the interior ministry, Hans-Dieter Lucas, press counsellor at the German Embassy, told reporters here yesterday. The offer, he said, followed a visit to Washington last week by German Interior Minister Otto Schily, who met US Vice President Dick Cheney, Attorney General John Ashcroft, Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, CIA director George Tenet and Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage. There were also discussions on international terrorism, said Lucas. Schily and Ridge agreed to discuss measures for protecting computer systems and such vital domestic installations as power plants from terrorist attacks. Bureau Report
