Kampala (Uganda), June 25: The Global Alliance for Vaccination and Immunization (GAVI) will provide 4.3 million US dollars to Uganda if the country beats its immunisation targets, a WHO official has said.
"The fund is dependent on how many children are
vaccinated. If they go beyond the target, then the money will
be released," WHO inter-country epidemiologist for East Africa
Rudi Eggers said here.
He said Uganda's immunization program has improved over the last two years after a slight decline in 2000.
The country received the first GAVI support totalling 455,085 dollar in 2000 and a similar amount in 2001. About 910,000 dollars was released to the country last year.
The other beneficiaries of the GAVI fund this year include Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania. Bureau Report
