The eight-day long strike by the junior doctors and students of the Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH) to press for their charter of demands was called off on Friday.
The decision to call off the strike was taken after a meeting between the state health minister Bhumidhar Barman and representatives of the Silchar Medical College Students Union and the Junior Doctors Association, the spokesman of the unions said.
He said that the minister had pledged that the state government would meet their nine-point charter of demands in phases within three months. The minister said that he would order a high-level probe into an alleged financial scam involving purchase of medicines for the hospital. Bureau Report
